If your child is arriving regularly in the morning, 8:30 AM:
On your child’s first day you must arrive promptly at 8:30 AM. You will be welcomed by your child’s teacher and shown where your child’s cubby is (this is like a locker where your child will store their belongings).
Then please sit down and encourage your child to engage in an activity, this might be play-dough at the play-dough table, reading a book, building with blocks or working with the water, sand or other materials in the texture tub. While your child is engaged, you will stay in the classroom and try to keep a low profile, so your child finds school fun and exciting. You will stay at AMB for the first 3 hours of the program. The first day your child attends AMB ends at 11:30 AM, regardless of their regular schedule.
Our goal is for the first day to be a fun time that associates school with a positive experience so that he/she will want to return the following day.
If your child is arriving regularly in the afternoon, 2:30 PM:
On your child’s first day you must arrive fifteen minutes later then you are regularly scheduled: 2:45 PM. You will be welcomed by your child’s teacher and shown where your child’s cubby is (this is like a locker where your child will store their belongings).

Your Child’s Second Day:
If your child is arriving regularly in the morning, 8:30 AM: Please arrive promptly at 8:30 AM. Then please sit down with your child and encourage them to engage in an activity. We will ask you to come with your child and stay for the first hour of school and then be somewhere close by so that if your child needs you, you can come to school quickly. After about an hour or so, we will ask you to give your child a big hug and kiss and say good-bye telling them, “I have to go and will see you in a few minutes, and you will be here with (insert name of teacher). I love you, have fun!”
Then you leave the classroom; your child may or may not cry, both of these reactions are completely normal! You will need to stay in the neighborhood.
In about ten minutes we will call you to let you know how your child is doing:
If they are having a very difficult time, then we will ask that you return and stay with them in the classroom and then say good-bye at 11:30 AM.
If your child is engaged, then we will ask you to still be close by so that if your child begins to have a difficult time we can reach you and you can return to the school quickly.
On the second day your child will again be with us for three hours, regardless of their regular schedule.

Your Child’s Third Day: The next steps depend on the needs of your child. Some children will be ready for a longer day (if your child is staying full day), some children will need another day of only three hours. Depending on your child’s reaction the day before, we will determine the length of their day on the third day together. If your child is scheduled to be with us for 3 hours, but they had difficulty with the separation the day before, we will also work with you to determine the best amount of time for them to be at school without you.
After your child’s first day of school: Our goal is to help children feel comfortable and safe at school and to know that their parents or guardians will return. If you have a nanny or a babysitter who has been caregiving for your child, we would like to work with all of you as a team to help with your child’s transition into school. The women/men who have been or will be continuing to be strong caregivers for your children will also need to be part of this process, since your child has or had such a strong connection to these important individuals as well. Please help your child’s other caregivers be part of this transition process, by talking with them about strategies you can all use to help your child be successful in school and also to find out their thoughts or ideas about what might help your child.
Children react to school with a wide range of emotions and behaviors. Some parents and children may find that they can easily say good-bye to each other on the first day. Other parents and children may still be working on separation for many weeks to come. Remember that each child transitions into a new setting, especially a school setting differently. No matter how your child reacts, and your own feelings about separation, the teachers, assistant teachers and director are here to help you make this transition go as smoothly as possible. Please know that your child’s comfort and happiness are most important to us so we will do all that we can to help your child feel safe and secure at school. You may call to check on your child anytime during the day. If you have any questions please call or e-mail us!
When your child begins school at Amazing Magic Beans, you and your child become part of a larger community of support and celebration of childhood and the joys and explorations of life.
